Are you looking for that early 2000’s softcore emo sound, blended with alternative rock, Midwest emo, and a touch of that grunge vibe from the same era? Well, I have just the band for you! Johnnyrook, a band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, formed in the early 2000’s and has carried that sound with them all the way into 2025 - and we are loving it! They've just released a reissue featuring a brand-new new guitarist and a remixed and remastered single to lead up to the re-release of their last album, The More Things Change. Later this year, they'll also be dropping an all-new EP.

‘Feel It All Again’ just got a makeover - and it’s to die for! The song takes on new live in this remixed and remastered version. The sound it clearer and more refined. Jame’s smooth voice melds perfectly with the driving drumbeats and the early 2000s strumming patterns of the twin guitarists and bassist, creating something that leaves you craving more. These guys know exactly how to evoke nostalgia in the best way possible, while still adding fresh techniques and weaving in pop elements. James' effortless shifts from louder vocals to softer tones  - all while maintaining feeling and  keeping it smooth and melodic - enhances the emotion at just the right moments in the song. The echo from the other members and the overlay on James’ voice take it a step further still.

If that wasn’t enough, the lyrics will hit you like a truck. The emotion in both the vocals and lyrics will have you deep in your feelings yet still jamming along. With the lines “Ordinarily I’d say I don’t  ever want it, it’s safe to say I lied, I wanna feel it all again” and “I’ve been weak before, but this is a whole new level, been climbing this mountain, and waking up on the floor,” we can all relate to the overall feel of the song - from the reflections on mental health to the insinuation of a toxic relationship. We have all experienced something that has made us feel trapped in a cycle, finding comfort in the familiar while craving the need for change. Johnnyrook is here to help us feel it all again, while reminding us that it’s okay to remix and remaster - in music and in life.

The way they sing about mental health - in a way that truly connects, provokes emotion, yet stays stays fun and allows us to feel it at just the right level - is a refined talent.  These guys have been writing and playing music for 20 years and have mastered the balance between the instrumentals and the lyrics. They have cultivated an energy that is deep and layered, giving you a complete experience, whether you're at a live shows or listening at home. The new guitar lines, along with the fresh mixing and and mastering on this song and entire album, really highlight the band's growth over the past 5 years. Their sound is more refined than ever, and they've embraced a whole new production style.

If you loved those early 2000 emo/Midwest emo vibes, with just a pop of modern sounds and techniques, then this is the single for you! If you don’t leave this emotional experience wondering if it really was just a phase, then I don’t know what will. This band and single deserve a lot more recognition. It's rare to find a band or artist that can capture pure nostalgia in new music - and rarer still to find one who can make you feel something so deeply through both words and instruments, while keeping the energy fun enough to rock out to. It really is a full-body experience all its own. So go give this song a listen, and show this band some praise - they're making the emo revival scene hit hard with that old sound, but from a fresh perspective. Keep an eye out for their single ‘Missing You for Days’ and the album The More Things Change, out on all streaming platforms. And there's more to come - an all-new EP coming this autumn! Johnnyrook is back and taking the emo revival by storm!
