Following the cancellation of his Wonder Tour in 2022, Mendes stepped away from touring for two years. His comeback began in August 2024 with a short run of intimate shows. In May 2025, he announced his biggest tour since, and, after months of anticipation, on 16th August 2025, Shawn Mendes returned to The O2 Arena stage like he never left.

From the moment the lights dimmed, the arena buzzed as the night opened with “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.” The audience matched Mendes’s energy, setting the tone for the evening. Early highlights included “Wonder” and “Treat You Better” before Mendes shifted gears with “Lost in Japan,” letting his band stretch the groove into something looser and funkier than the studio cut.

As the show progressed, Mendes pulled back the volume and gathered his band for an acoustic section reminiscent of his ‘For Friends And Family Only’ shows, which took place earlier in 2024. He performed Isn’t That Enough and Heart of Gold, two tracks from his latest release, ‘Shawn.’ The mood soon switched again with ‘Señorita,’ which turned into a massive sing-along carried by the crowd. Soon after, ‘Ruin’ saw the first barrier run of the night, with Shawn’s Golden Ticket holder getting up close to the Canadian musician.

Just when the audience thought they had seen all Mendes had to offer, the biggest surprise came when Shawn welcomed Niall Horan to the stage. Together, they performed Horan’s debut single, "This Town," with their harmonies blending effortlessly. This came after Shawn’s surprise appearance at Horan’s The Show Live On Tour at Wembley Arena last March, where they performed Mendes’ hit “Treat You Better”.

Building on this momentum, Mendes drove the crowd toward a stadium-sized finale. Stitches and "If I Can’t Have You" electrified the room, while "It’ll Be Okay" revealed his lower register's vulnerability. The audience prepared a coordinated surprise for Why Why Why, raising signs spelling out support as the stage glowed with the words “Here you are singing songs again,” highlighting his achievements since his return.

As the night reached its peak, closing with In My Blood, mountains worth of confetti and a rain of sparks filled the arena. Shawn Mendes made a hell of a comeback and left with a closing statement only an artist comfortable in both his own vulnerability and power can deliver.
